Meet CoRoT-18 b, a sizzling hot Jupiter discovered in 2011 by the space-based CoRoT mission, which spotted it using the precise transit method — catching the planet as it flirted with its star’s light. Orbiting the star CoRoT-18, this gas giant is a real scorcher, hugging its star so closely that a year there zooms by in just a couple of days! Thanks to the CoRoT CCD Array, we can study this distant world from the comfort of Earth orbit, peeking into its blazing atmosphere and wild weather. While we don’t have a catchy proper name for it yet, CoRoT-18 b already earns its place in the league of exotic exoplanets that make astronomers smile and dream of alien skies.
