WASP-178 b is a sizzling hot Jupiter that orbits the bright star WASP-178, discovered back in 2019 by the clever folks monitoring the skies with the WASP-South facility. This exoplanet is a true fireball, hugging its star so closely that it completes a full orbit in just a matter of days, baking under intense stellar heat. Thanks to the transit method and the sharp iKon-L CCD Camera, astronomers caught WASP-178 b as it stealthily passed in front of its star, causing tiny dips in brightness. While we don’t have a cozy nickname for this blazing world yet, it’s definitely a standout in the family of ultra-hot Jupiters, offering a fascinating glimpse into extreme planetary atmospheres far beyond our solar system.
