Meet WASP-14 b, a hefty hot Jupiter that’s been sizzling in the cosmic spotlight since its discovery in 2008 by the SuperWASP project. This giant gas planet orbits its star, WASP-14, quite closely, making it one of the more intense and dramatic worlds we know outside our solar system. Thanks to the clever use of the transit method and the iKon-L CCD Camera on the ground, astronomers spotted this fiery ball as it periodically eclipses its star, causing a tiny but telling dip in starlight. While it’s a bit too toasty to be a vacation spot, this planet’s wild atmosphere and rapid orbit make it a fascinating study in extreme exoplanetary environments, proving that the universe never runs out of surprises.
