WASP-129 b is a fascinating hot Jupiter discovered in 2016 orbiting the star WASP-129. This gas giant makes its home extremely close to its host star, so close that it completes its orbit in just a matter of days, bathing in intense stellar heat and making it a sizzling world unlike any in our solar system. Discovered using the transit method with the SuperWASP-South facility and the iKon-L CCD camera, this exoplanet occasionally passes in front of its star, giving astronomers a wonderful chance to study it from afar. While it doesn’t have a proper name yet, WASP-129 b’s discovery adds to our growing list of bizarre, scorching giants that challenge our understanding of planetary formation and life beyond Earth!
