WASP-117 b is a fascinating world orbiting the star WASP-117, discovered in 2014 using the clever transit method by the SuperWASP project, which spots distant planets as they pass in front of their stars. This exoplanet is a bit of a cosmic adventurer, taking its time to circle its star at a leisurely pace compared to many hot Jupiters, making it a more relaxed neighbor in its stellar system. Thanks to observations from the ground with the iKon-L CCD Camera, we’ve learned that WASP-117 b offers a unique glimpse into the diverse family of gas giants beyond our solar system. While it's many light-years away, its discovery shines a light on the incredible variety of worlds awaiting exploration across our galaxy.
