HATS-39 b is a fascinating hot Jupiter that orbits its star, HATS-39, discovered back in 2018 by the clever folks using the transit method from the ground-based HATSouth network. Equipped with the Apogee 4K CCD Sensor, these Earth-bound astronomers caught this gas giant as it gracefully crossed in front of its star, causing a tiny dip in brightness. Though it’s not a chilly distant world, HATS-39 b is known for being close to its star, making it a sizzling planet where temperatures soar. While it doesn’t yet have a fancy proper name, this giant world’s discovery highlights how much we’ve advanced in spotting planets far beyond our solar system, all from right here on our own blue planet.
