Welcome to 11 UMi b, a fascinating giant exoplanet orbiting the bright giant star 11 Ursae Minoris, tucked away in the northern constellation of Ursa Minor. Discovered back in 2009 with the clever help of the radial velocity technique at the Thueringer Landessternwarte Tautenburg Observatory, this planet was uncovered by tracking subtle stellar wobbles using the Coude Echelle Spectrograph. While it doesn’t have a catchy nickname yet, 11 UMi b is a true cosmic heavyweight, likely a gas giant, making it a distant sibling to our own Jupiter but orbiting a star much bigger and older. Perfect for space travelers who dream of distant worlds lurking in the skies of the Little Bear!
